Christmas is a magical time, especially when you get to spend it with the one you love. But finding that one Christmas gift idea for your girlfriend, fiancée or wife can be a daunting task if you’ve just started dating and you’re not sure what she’d like, or, you’ve been together or known her for a long time and you’re not sure what to buy the woman who has everything.

If you’re just stumped and can’t quite decide on what to give her, but you are looking for romantic Christmas gift ideas that will sweep her off of her feet, keep in mind that the best Christmas gift ideas require some time and effort on your part.

Here are some ideas that go beyond the impersonal gift certificate or typical scarf to get you thinking about some alternatives that may put a sparkle in her eye this Christmas.

A Christmas Engagement

There are few romantic Christmas gift ideas that can top getting engaged over the holidays. You are giving her the gift of your love and commitment, and her finger is decorated with a beautiful testament to your feelings for her.

Of course you can go over-the-top with planning the wedding engagement – renting a limo, an expensive dinner for two, and maybe even a horse and buggy ride. But if you’d rather put that money toward getting her a ring, or saving it for the wedding, you can create a memorable experience for her with little expense.

• Cook Dinner Yourself – Even if you aren’t the world’s greatest cook, she will enjoy the fact that you took the time to create a meal for her.

• A Romantic Walk – Taking a walk after dinner, under the stars, to enjoy the Christmas lights can be absolutely enchanting, especially if you get down on one knee and slip a gorgeous diamond engagement ring on her finger.

• The Family Gathering Turned Engagement Party – If either your family or hers is planning to get together a little before the holidays, contact the hosts ahead of time and let them know you will be proposing. You may be able to make the gathering twice as festive – an annual event bringing the family together, and an opportunity to celebrate your engagement at the same time.

But if getting engaged is not in your plans for the holidays, you can always express your love with jewelry. A pair of diamond earrings with a matching necklace or pendant is a classic choice, or, you can choose to start a tradition by giving her a gold charm bracelet that can be added onto holiday after holiday.

Traveling

Whether you’re going for the exotic island location, an outdoor adventure, or you want to completely romance her, the surprise of a vacation getaway (that she doesn’t have to plan) is a romantic Christmas gift idea that will have her glowing with happiness. Giving her the opportunity to relax and truly put her obligations on hold, whether for a week or a weekend, is a gift all by itself – and if she can do this in her favorite kind of setting, you will definitely touch her heart.

Here’s a few sites to visit to begin planning the trip:

• For the islands – if she wants to sit back and relax, these two sites are a one-stop shop for all-inclusive packages:

Spoil Her

Pamper her by combining a trip at the spa, a shopping spree and time with her friends for a luxurious day or weekend.

Every woman enjoys feeling like a princess, and there’s nothing quite like the VIP treatment you get at a spa. Go beyond the standard manicure and pedicure and tie both of these pamper sessions in with a facial, massage and/or body wrap. Most spas offer packages for these services, so ask some women you know to name their favorite luxurious spas.

The only thing better than a holistic spa treatment by herself is having a girlfriend or two go with her. Talk with one of her friends’ boyfriends and suggest he use the same Christmas gift idea for his girlfriend so both women can share the experience together.

Combine this with lunch or dinner reservations at an exclusive or hot, new restaurant in the area, and a shopping spree, courtesy of your credit card, and she will come home at the end of the day, relaxed, renewed and grateful to you.

The best way to find a good local spa in your city, or even in your state, is to get a referral from someone who has been there. But if you really want to take things to the next level, you can send her to a retreat at one of the world’s best spas.

Or, instead of spending the time with one of her friends, you can offer to join her for some time completely dedicated to her needs and interests. Probably the best Christmas gift idea for your girlfriend, fiancée or wife is to give her the gift of your time – turning off the Blackberry, forgetting the to-do lists, canceling the meetings, and completely focusing your attention on her and letting her know how much she’s appreciated. And, taking the time to participate in her day could bring the two of you closer together.

Any Christmas gift idea for your girlfriend, fiancée or wife should involve some thought, creativity and planning. If you combine those three elements, any romantic Christmas gift idea that you have will go over well. Because, after all, isn’t she going to put a lot of thought and effort into your Christmas gift? Truly show your love by doing the same for her this holiday season.

Romance Lessons from Paris

“I love Paris in the springtime”, goes the popular song. Paris is known as the romantic capital of the world. The city of Paris itself has been the subject of countless songs about romance and the pursuit of love. Everything you do in Paris seems enchanted by the air of romance. Think of the idyllic scenes that you’ve seen in the movies: an intimate dinner at a sidewalk café, walking under an ancient stone bridge hand in hand over cobblestone streets, dancing next to an exotic river, smelling the fresh flowers cascading from shuttered windows thrown open to the street. Sounds appealing right?

It has been sought after by artists the world over as a place of inspiration and intrigue. Ernest Hemingway, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry Miller, Samuel Beckett, and more recently Paul Auster, all relocated to Paris to gain inspiration for their writing. On the street where Ernest Hemingway lived, there is a plaque to memorialize his stay there. He lived across from a popular part of Paris still thriving and bustling with the romantic scenes that must have crept into his writing and inspired his art. There is a nearby café along the side of a roundabout bursting with daffodils and lilies. Parisians are still taking their time conversing and lounging at the nearby café, the common night-life scenes continue that he saw years ago.

Ancient cathedrals add an air of mystery and drama to the city of Paris. When walking into the Notre-Dame cathedral, it is still common to hear prayers sung through the echoing grandeur of this magnificent building. Stone gargoyles and carefully crafted etchings adorn the outside of the building and instantly conjure up visions of Victor Hugo’s masterpiece “the Hunchback of Notre-Dame” and its tragic love story between Quasimodo and Esmerelda.

One of the most powerful romantic qualities of Paris is its distinct aroma. Air conditioning is still largely unused in much of the city center of Paris. As a result, in the springtime the shutters are thrown open and the aroma of home cooked meals spills into the street. This also adds the sound of daily life in Paris to the full experience that the city provides. You are given a peek into the private lives lived along its streets, as these windows are opened to the world. Flowers abound and mix with the sweet smell of coffee houses and delicious bakeries. Of course, romance is crippled without the addition of captivating aroma, so it makes sense that Paris should provide such a bounty of sweet alluring smells.

With all of its mystery and intrigue, there is something to be learned from the romantic reputation of Paris. It pulls us in with an appeal to all of the senses. The visual beauty of stunning architecture and old world style is complimented perfectly by the intoxicating aroma of its city streets.

If you want to benefit from some of the romance lessons learned from Paris, you should focus on aroma. It is the easiest way to bring some of that romance into your life. A new type of scented candle, the Original Mandle, is an ultra-premium cologne scented candle for optimal effect in the game of attraction. These unique scents have proven themselves time and time again as powerful attracting elements. You can choose from candles that smell like Acqua Di Gio, Very Sexy For Him, or Eternity by Calvin Klein, to name a few. Now that you know more about the elements of romance, you’ll appreciate even more the affect that comes from the right scent at the right time.

Online Dating Tips for Grannies

Life expectancy is much longer than it once was and many people are active well into their 60s and 70s. The number of grannies looking for companionship after divorce or bereavement is growing. However, granny dating does not have to be daunting, even if you have just come out of a long term relationship.

The options available to you for meeting new people have changed and granny dating online is now commonplace. If you are looking for a date then granny dating sites can help you. However, before signing up it’s worth taking into consideration some online dating tips for grannies.

Grannies can tend to be less computer literate than others, so getting the basics in place is the first step. A valid email account is the first pre-requisite for joining a dating site. You will also need to be able to upload photographs and publish information about yourself onto the site. If you haven't used the internet much in the past, it's worth spending some time to familiarise yourself with how it works first. There are many courses available, but two good places to start might be your local college or library.

When you start one of the hardest things to do is change your mindset. If you are a granny the chances are you have settled into a routine lifestyle and have become set in your ways. This is not a bad thing, though it is often difficult to make changes, so to start online dating you need to keep an open mind. Think of dating as a fresh start and an opportunity to meet new and interesting people with differing points of view.

You will need to create a profile to post on the site and it’s essential to think carefully about this. It’s surprising how people can create the wrong impression of themselves without realising it. Your profile should sell your best characteristics and features and above all be honest about yourself. Don’t give away too much about yourself, just enough to encourage people to get in touch with you. Write out a draft of what you are going to publish on the site beforehand and then read it over to ensure it makes sense.

Next, you need to create at least three profile photos. It is worth spending a bit of time on these so they show you looking your best. One of the pictures should be a head and shoulders shot in which your face is completely visible and don’t forget to smile. It’s a good idea to use other photographs that show you while relaxed and enjoying yourself. This could for example be shots taken while on holiday.

Always remember that meeting people online is the same as meeting someone through any other medium. You may think you've had a successful date, but the person you dated may not agree. Don’t be discouraged and always remain polite and courteous. Take things slowly, don’t have too many expectations and finally, don’t forget to have some fun.

The SoHo experience

New York has a life of its own and everyone who visits this city that never sleeps is guaranteed an experience of a lifetime. However, New York is not simply one big city but made up of a number of different places and locations all creating one big melting pot of culture.

SoHo is one such location. SoHo which is the shorten form for South of Houston is now well known as the place for the arts. It was during the 1960’s that artists moved to SoHo to the abandoned buildings which had perfect ‘lofts’, the ideal space for artists. These buildings were pre-mid 20th century industrial buildings such as small factories and sweatshops.

During this industrial period SoHo was referred to as Hell’s Hundred Acres and was basically a wasteland. Prior to this the area was over run with brothels and bars compared to anywhere else in the city. These abandoned buildings were as said before ideal for artists to be creative. The large well lit lofty spaces were perfect for canvasses and such artist paraphernalia.

By the 70s SoHo had become a residential area and a popular artistic zone. It is nowadays a hip and happening place visited by many who wish to have an aesthetic experience. The area is bordered by Greenwich Village to the north and by Little Italy to the east and towards southwest is Chinatown which makes a visit to SoHo a culturally enriching experience.

It is easy to access the trains from near the hotel to visit the landmark attractions of New York such as the Empire State Building, Times Square, the Museum of Modern Arts and Ground Zero. The classic Guggenheim Museum is also worth a visit with its unique architecture though it was considered by most as less than successful as a gallery. With its soft while colour and spiral shape this building attracts a lot of attention.

SoHo is full of beautiful cobblestone streets and has art galleries, restaurants, branded fashion shops all housed in historic cast-iron buildings. The area is abundant with restaurants such as Nabu or Café Café which is a coffee and health food café or the SoHo bar and lounge which attracts a large crowd and plays old school music and classics.

Modern SoHo is however no longer the cheap haven for artists that it used to be and most artist lofts are very expensive. This has resulted in many moving to the nearby TriBeCa, though SoHo will always remain as the heart and soul of the artistic community. SoHo has the ability to make an art lover out of all who visit with its alluring galleries and bohemian qualities. The famous Hudson River is on the west of SoHo.

There are many hotels in SoHo so finding accommodation is not difficult. One such hotel is the SoHo Grand Hotel New York, offering guests a comfortable stay right in the heart of matters. Giving guests access to modern SoHo carrying influences of its past, the hotel ensures you are just minutes from an amazing nightlife, from diverse cultural experiences and wonderful shopping.
